The 2021 Annual Academic Conference of FGS successfully convened in BNU
To stimulate academic collaboration and exchange on geographical sciences, FGS convened the 2021 Annual Academic Conference on Dec. 4, 2021 in the BNU Jingshi Hall. More than 1000 faculty members and research scientists from BNU and other academic institutions attended the conference on campus and online.
Themed with “Harmony between Human and Nature”, the conference were composed of plenary keynote presentations, parallel thematic sessions as well as posters. The plenary session was chaired by the Deputy Dean of FGS, Professor JIANG Weiguo. In the opening ceremony of the conference, the Executive Dean of FGS, Professor SONG Changqing delivered the opening speech.
Three renowned academicians and professors delivered the plenary keynote presentations. Academician CHEN Jun from the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) gave a speech on “Demands on the development of Spatio-temporal information and technical system construction for the high-quality development of natural resources”. Professor FANG Chuanglin from the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced his research progress in “"Exploration of urban human-land coupling circle theory and coupler regulation”. Professor SONG Changqing, Dean of FGS delivered a lecture on “Perception of the of land surface systems processes and its supporting data basis”.
12 sessions were designated to provide a platform for sharing frontier achievements on geographical sciences, including 9 sessions on "Soil Erosion and its Environmental Effects", "Surface Processes and Carbon Neutrality on the Tibetan Plateau", "Resource Ecology and Health", "Complex Hazards and Big Data Disaster Risk Management", "Global Climate and Environmental Change", "Human-Land System Coupling and Landscape Sustainability", "Regional High Quality Development", "Geospatial Intelligence", "Quantitative Remote Sensing and Applications", and 2 academic sessions for postgraduate students on "Climate Change and Sustainable Development on the Tibetan Plateau" and "Geographic Information Modelling and Remote Sensing" as well as 1 1 academic session for undergraduate students on "Research Training and Academic Skills Enhancement". A total of 121 oral presentations were exchanged, including 10 invited presentations from external institutes, 65 presentations from FGS teachers and 46 from FGS students. The lecturers and the participating teachers and students fully exchanged their knowledge and views.
A total of 72 posters showcasing the academic research achievements of the faculty and students were set up in the conference venue.
At the fifth anniversary of the establishment of FGS, this conference has not only built a platform for active and in-depth exchanges between teachers and students, but also created an opportunity for everyone to review the development history of the FGS and look forward to its future. In the future, FGS will continue to adhere to reform, innovation, openness and cooperation, strengthen academic exchanges with domestic and international geographers, and forge ahead on a new journey!
