1st BNU-CU virtual workshop Held

On 7 March 2022, FGS successfully held the first joint virtual workshop with the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences of Cardiff University, a total of 24 faculty members from both sides participated. 11 faculty members from FGS, including Professor Xiaobin Dong, Professor Cunde Xiao, Professor Chunlai Zhang, Professor Qiang Zhang, Professor Wenwu Zhao, Professor Xiuchen Wu, Associate Professor Zhuodong Zhang, Associate Professor Ganlin Huang, Associate Professor Qingxu Huang, Dr. Xuechao Wang and Ms. Zhang Wenjuan, attended the workshop.

The workshop was chaired by Dr. Tiago Alves and Dr. Mao Feng. Professor Ian Hall, Head of the School and Professor Carrie Lear, Director of Research, gave the introductory words from CU side.

Professor Dong Xiaobin, Deputy Director of FGS, gave a welcoming speech and introduced FGS from BNU side.

Three sessions’ talks respectively on Environmental Research – from Climate to Large-Scale Tectonics”, on Sustainability and Geohazards as well as on Applied Geology and Resource Management had been carried out in the workshop, each participants gave a brief introduction of their current research.

Through the exchange, teachers from both sides identified potential partners and agreed on the basis for mutual collaboration.

The workshop also discussed future funding channels for mutual educational and research collaboration, like the Mobility Fund for BNU and CU academic exchange, China NSF and UKRI as well as UK Royal Society fund etc.  

This workshop was an important step in the promotion of BNU-CU strategic partnership and provided good opportunities for teachers from both sides to deepen their cooperation in education and research.
